Connecting to nature and communities
During this exhilarating journey, guests will visit to an organic farm and a yoga session before donning their aprons in a cooking class led by a professional chef. We dip into Medellin's tragic past and hopeful future with a visit to the outside escalators in Comuna 13, taking part in a community project and salsa class. We connect to nature with an eco walk of the senses before tasting Colombia's finest coffee beans and exotic fruits. The trip culminates in a trip to Colombia's most stunning natural reserve where we raft, zip line and explore the depths of a mythical marble cave.
Itinerary (3-7 days)
Day 1: Arrivals
Day 2: Urban gardening
Journey through one of Medellin's most vibrant neighbourhoods. Comuna 13 was once a thoroughfare for drug traffickers, now it teems with visitors who come to view the world-class graffiti and outside escalators. We take part in a social project to help the community and dance salsa led by an award-winning instructor.
Day 3: Team cooking challenge
Travel to el Carmen de Viboral, a town one hour from Medellin, to meet a traditional Antioquia farmer. Understand, and taste, the entire process of organic farming. We enjoy a dynamic yoga clas before splitting into teams to cook our own sustainable meal led by a professional chef.
Day 4: Eco walk, coffee and exotic fruit tasting
Explore Medellin's extraordinary ecological playground, Parque Arvi. We visit Colombia's second largest plant nursery, experience a thrilling eco walk which tests every sense. In the afternoon, we enjoy a coffee tasting session with a local coffee maker and explore the world of exotic fruits In the evening, we enjoy a bonfire ad traditional music under the stars.
Day 5: Rafting under marble caves
We travel 3 hours south east to visit Colombia's most spectacular natural reserves: Rio Claro. Here, we raft down a crystal clear river and underneath unique marble caves. As the sun sets we walk among the fascinating flora and fauna and discover an endemic bird species.
Day 6: Thrilling caving adventure
After waking up to the howl of monkeys, we strap on our helmets and head into the depth of a marble cave. Teamwork is key as we navigate the pitch black with a few surprises.
Day 7: Departures
Our Positive Impact
This trip demonstrates to each one of our guests that it is possible to travel without leaving a negative environmental impact. Each experience and activity has been carefully developed so that we can measure its impact on communities and the environment. From buying and eating locally-sourced products to only using environmentally-friendly materials and from working with and supporting communities to offering educational services to local schools, this trip has been developed in such a way that we can legitimately call it "sustainable."
