Itinerary (1-2 days)
Morning: Walking tour of Moravia Few places embody the drastic transformation of Medellin like Moravia. Located in the north of the city, this neighbourhood tells a story of sadness, resilience, and hope for the future. As well as typically tight, winding streets and a busy, hectic atmosphere, Moravia differs from other neighbourhoods. We discover just why on a walking tour led by two locals. Lunch: Dining to support locals We ensure we spend the entire day in Moravia so the local economy benefits from our presence this means we dine at a sublime restaurant in the centre. Afternoon: Hands-on workshops in the cultural centre Designed by prize-winning architect Rogelio Salmona, Moravia's cultural centre is a true shining light for local creativity and innovation. Thanks to our alliances, we offer guests the chance to take part or even lead an activity in the cultural centre. Depending on the date we visit other opportunities could be available like planting an urban garden Evening: SDG Challenge We end the day with our unique SDG Challenge which will highlight the effect we have on communities and neighbourhoods we visit. We cover such topics as gentrification, giving our guests the tools to make sustainable decisions in the future. |
What's included: - Lunch and snacks (all our choices are local and have a measurable life cycle) - Transport - Guides (all our guides are local and experts in sustainable communities) - All scheduled excursions and activities - Donation to a sustainable development project in a local school. (We are dedicated to a 1 for 1 scheme whereby for every paying guest on our trip we offer a free trip for a local student.) |
About Moravia's unique history
Part of the residential housing in Moravia is built upon something rather unusual – a big pile of garbage. Declared a health hazard by the government, the hundreds of families living atop this heap were asked to move to government-provided accommodation. While many families moved; others did not and maintain their stoic stance to this day. Nowadays, however, the heap has been transformed into an urban garden, displaying multi-coloured flowers and an impressive greenhouse. |
